yupper, you are correct....you will experience trace in all races, my girl friend grew up in Philly and hates it so much she'd never move back...and it's even worse now...

I so believe it's vital to rent an apartment for a year or so, when moving into a new area/state, so you can look around and get a good feel for where you'd feel comfortable living, if you remember, you can't have it all...

I myself would never ever live in an HOA, Home Owners Association again, of which are many in the Poconos....plus the roads there were not built to house so many people so traffic is bad, but it's bad all over as well.

I will take the Poconos version of traffic any day. I left work in the Bronx at 5pm yesterday. It’s 1.5 miles to the highway. It took me 35 minutes to go that 1.5 miles. No road construction, no accidents - just volume, traffic lights and double parked cars.

whew, that is awful....

when I lived up in the Poconos, we had neighbors from NYC who decided they were going to travel back and forth, instead of coming up on weekends....which is what most did who moved to the Poconos from NY....honestly I don't know how they did it...a lot of their wives stayed there during the week and they would come up on Weekends due to the long commute, however, our neighbor commuted every single day, and honestly I don't know hoe he did it....but he did....

See, orignially I was from a very small town in PA, and back then we didn't have much traffic to sit in, which is why I really get anxiety when having to sit in traffic, so when I moved to the Poconos, we'd jump off Rt. 33 in Saylorsburg, drive down to the T, and Turn left towards Brodheadsville down Rt. 209. The first years, it wasn't bad, but as more and more people from NYC and NJ moved there, the traffic became worse, and during fair week, I found an alternative back road route to our home....lol

So, yeah I know your right, for sure, and hopefully, the OP will find a place they can call home, without much traffic....

we found it frustrating driving a lot of times on many pocono roads as they were single lane with no where to pass grandma holding up a long line of cars trying to at least do the speeds limit

I thought you had lived up near Scranton, not in the Poconos?

That's been my complaint. The planners of the region should have been widening the roads in the 80's instead of waiting until now to realize our roads can't handle the influx of residents. The developers should have been working with the municipalities, engineers, etc. to anticipate this problem. Well, developers just wanted to make money selling homes. Now the road planning is playing catch up to satisfy residents needs.

it isn’t just the roads .

when wall street west was being considered the poconos were considered but the infrastructure was so lacking that it was dropped .

there was little in place to support large businesses with many people.

everything from sewers , to electricity couldn’t support a big influx .

there were no buildings available in sizes needed .

there was little in the way of support businesses in the area .

imagine 2,000 people going out for lunch and trying to get a quick bite .

so the area was never really planned for much growth

+1 on all your points. 2k people going out to lunch would be a complete disaster in the Poconos. On another note, after 2010, there was an initiative to turn the old Fernwood resort to a casino. That would have been a boon for my particular area. Unfortunately, a site south of Pittsburgh eventually got that casino. That was a death knell for Middle Smithfield Twp. That old Fernwood resort is nothing but an eyesore right now. Just as well that it didn't materialize because of the aforementioned infrastructure concerns.
