I was just wondering what everyone planned to do this year for New Year's Eve. I have been invited to three different house parties, but I'm considering going with yet more friends to check out First Night: Scranton for the first time. I'm fortunate enough that Lowe's "likes" me, so I received both New Year's Eve AND New Year's Day off from work! LOL!

In any event I hope everyone's 2009 is much better than 2008. It has been a STRESSFUL year for many people I know. With a new president in the Oval Office hopefully at least SOME things will get better on the national front, and perhaps in 2009 Dan will get his wish with a new mayor at the helm in Scranton.

I voted for a wide variety of options. I definitely plan to watch Joe Paterno rise victoriously with his Nittany Lions in the Rose Bowl, and I may even watch the parade this year from Pasadena for a change. I might be going to Mohegan Sun with friends earlier in the day on New Year's Eve or later in the day on New Year's Day once I sober up. As implied, I'll probably get as inebriated as I was the other night at a sleep over party with a bunch of co-workers, where I had two large glasses of Captain Morgan and lost count at a dozen Jell-O shots during an adapted version of beer pong! As a fair warning though: When I get drunk I apparently start pole-dancing and singing to Madonna music while doing strip-teases for random females! I plan to eat dinner with family at our home at around 6 PM, but then I'll be headed out as my parents are boring and go to bed long before midnight. I've been invited to a small gathering at a friend's home with her family in Pittston, a small party at another friend's home in Olyphant, a larger house party with co-workers at a home in Kingston, and am STILL pondering checking out First Night: Scranton before the city takes it over next year and screws it up somehow. LOL!

I'm not really big on ringing in the New Year, as an early riser, midnight is just so late for me! However, I've been invited with my boyfriend to a party hosted by some friends of his, most of whom I don't really know. I'm not sure if we are going yet though. I'd rather be hanging in my PJ's in front of the fire watching New Year's Rocking Eve on TV until I fall asleep on the couch. So that's what I voted for. Just a ball of fire, ain't I?

Default Our plans...

New Year's here is going to be a fairly quiet evening - just not into it as much this year.

My husband and I make a great meal of prime rib and crab legs, and my kids chow down! Lots of fun and laughter at the dining table. Then we play board games and just chill while waiting for midnight. My kids usually have a friend over to stay (I refuse to shuttle kids around that night!), but they haven't filled us in on who's showing up.

Last year we were at my mom's (we had dinner there for her because she said our menu sounded tasty!) and both she and I had to be awakened to see the ball drop. I have a feeling it might be the same this year.

To all who are venturing out for New Year's Eve, please be careful and watch out, not only for yourselves, but for "the other guy" as well! Have fun!

As someone who has had a relative killed by a drunk driver as well as someone who has a relative with a DUI conviction, I can speak from experience that if you make the choice to get behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, then you will have to live with the consequences the rest of your life if you take another innocent life with your vehicle.

This is why even though I plan to get drunk enough to once again do a pole-dancing strip-tease to random 1980s dance music with friends at a party, I will be SLEEPING OVER! If you're clubbing/bar-hopping, get a designated driver OR call a taxi. I believe the bars in the Electric City in conjunction with McCarthy Cabs usually even offer FREE RIDES home from the bars for bar patrons in order to curb DUI-related offenses. This is a GREAT IDEA. Even if you drive to one of these places, take the cab home, and then have a relative go with you the next day to retrieve your vehicle from the bar parking lot. Most bar owners would rather deal with a car in their lot overnight instead of the guilt of knowing one of their patrons got behind the wheel and killed themselves or others.

I see all six others who have voted thus far have each only selected ONE option. I just wanted to remind you all that as a multiple choice poll, you can select as many as apply to you all if you're doing more than one thing.

Driving up from Joisey to visit Mom and SIL in Wilkes-Barre. We'll probably end up watching Dick Clark for a while. I never doze off waiting. Oh, watch this be the first year that it happens.

I have no idea what we're eating on New Years Day but have to see some of the Rose Parade before football starts.

It seems that I'll have to go back to the poll and do a bit more voting.
