So we all understand each other better;assuming it is allowed....I am a floor nurse by profession.....the antithesis of "self absorbed" and of course valuing human life IS my job.

I think it's a problem when at least two posters on this forum assume the "vast majority" of minorities who live in Scranton are "troublemakers." At 7.7% of the population, that's over 5,500 people-- the vast majority of whom these posters deem "troublemakers." You don't have to be a brain surgeon to understand that's stereotyping. The construction of a "good" minority the poster claims he has no problems with but conveniently exists "where he doesn't live" is old hat and typical.

In response, of course the posters will wail and complain that of course I'm not seeing what they see everyday, as if my five senses aren't oriented anti-minority enough. "The Mall at Steamtown! The Gangs! Drugs! Marquee Cinema! Listen to the Police Scanners!" But it's simply wrong to "lump" as the poster says (aka stereotype) thousands and thousands of minorities-- the vast majority of whom this poster has most certainly never encountered.

Opposition to gay marriage is by definition prejudice.

But we're going to Heaven anyway because scripture says homosexuality is a Sin, and I certainly would not risk offending Him-- not this late in my life!

Because I believe that "marriage" should only be between a man and a woman makes me prejudiced? I say, do whatever you want, go ahead and be gay. I'll never understand it as long as I live, but don't take a traditional sacred bond like marriage and tell me it's all right that the people of the same gender can do it. If they want civil unions fine, but not traditional marriages performed in a church.

I don’t get it, Just because I don’t like something about a minority it makes me a racist?
I’m sick of being called a racist when I disagree with someone.
Let’s see I live in a quiet no traffic working class neighborhood where everybody knows everybody else and all the kids play in each others well kept yards. and we watch out for each other.
Then one day out of the blue someone moves into a vacant newly remodeled home [owned by a section 8 specialist landlord] and every thing in this neighborhood changes.
Am I a racist because I don’t like the never heard in this neighborhood BOOB! BOOM! BOOM! Of what is called music these days coming from two blocks away? {and in front of my house]
Am I a racist because I don’t like to see a car in front of my house parked across my driveway at one AM
With people inside smoking whatever?
Am I a racist because I don’t like to see weeds in a yard that come up to your knees and garbage piled up along side of the building to a point that someone called the city to complain?
Or is it racist to not want your 5 year old granddaughter to see a near sex act on the back porch with all the filthy language and not a care in the world about who may be near?
All of these things happened within one month.
It’s not a racist thing, it’s a culture thing .I’ll have no part of it thank you.

Um, actually it *is* about the woman's choice, according to the law

Excellent post. The racists like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson want to make us seem racist if we don't like or respect on of their one, like Michael Jackson. I'm racist in their eyes if I don't like MJ, but what about the fact that I like Lenny Kravitz and Jimi Hendrix. What does that make me now? Like you said, it's not about race, it's a culture thing. We're not racists, we're realists.

I can get married in the courthouse. Not have a civil union - married. Why can't gays?

This has nothing to do with religious matrimony. We are talking about confering equal *secular* rights to gays.

As I said before, some churches refuse to marry straight couples for a multitude of reasons. No one is trying to force churches to perform gay marriages against their will. Though some churches WILL do it of their volition.

About abortion: Just because something is legal, doesn't mean it's moral. I speak from a woman's POV. I'm pro choice. Very pro choice. I believe a woman has a right to choose whether she is going to engage in behavior that since the beginning of time has resulted in creation of human life. Since the percentage of abortions from rape or incest is a small single digit, I won't touch on that issue. Do I have the right to kill someone just because they are a nussiance or simply unwanted? Has it ever occured to the liberals that they would eventually have more voters if they would stop killing so many of them before birth? It's simple: People should live the way they want, but take responsibility for their actions... and for God's sake, CHOOSE to use birth some control. So, I do believe in a woman's right to choose, not to kill an unborn child, but whether or not to create that child.

Regarding political correctness in NEPA or anywhere: I hate political correctness. It's makes people spineless. I'm neither racist or politically correct. I'm also not a resident of NEPA yet, but hope to be soon and I'm here so often that I feel like one.

Call it a civil union, but not marriage. Marriage is the sacred bond between a man an woman and goes back to the Old Testament and the Garden of Eden. Why can't gays just live together like a lot of heterosexuals do, why do they need special treatment just because they are gay? They should be human beings first and not bring their sexual orientation into play all the time.

I agree 100%, but common sense doesn't seem to fly too well in this PC society...
