Hello everyone. I'm just curious to see if anyone here has been laid-off from a job recently or knows of anyone that has? I officially became unemployed last Monday. I was told my position was being elminated because of the economy. I held the position for over 6 years. I filed for unemployment Tuesday online - phone lines were busy, even at 7:15 am. Between putting my cat to sleep before Christmas, getting sick soon after and then this, it hasn't been the best of times. I feel like I'm living in a nightmare. A friend of mine lost his job on Friday and another friend had to put his cat to sleep yesterday. Thanks for letting me vent.

I haven't been laid off yet, but it is a real possibility in the next few months. We had a 16 day shutdown over the Christmas holiday, because buisness has been stagnate, and have been warned of a possible upcoming lay off. Hopefully that will not happen. I'm sorry to here that you have lost your job, and there is absolutely nothing out there right now either. Hpefully things will start to improve shortly.

I'm sorry about your kitty too. I was laid off around this time last year when the economy first started to tank. I worked for a nonprofit. I got another job, but it's just a job and not anything that I want to be doing with my life. It almost pays the bills though. My advise would be to grab whatever you can until the economy turns around. That's what I did.

My husband works for one of the big stores in dickson city just had to lay off 9 people. After having a great season to making less then enough to cover the stores daily operations being opened. Seems like we might be seeing a lot of this in the coming months.

Sorry about your kitty

In July of 2007, my position (after 5 years) was eliminated. I was offered a position as a lab tech for the same company. I took it. I hung on for only a year after that and left for fear of damaging my eyes and the tremendous amount of stress involved. I thought I should go back to office work, so I left that company. Little did I know how difficult it would be to find a decent paying job again. I worked only 5 short weeks at another place, but it did not pan out as a permanent position. I was out of work for nearly one year. I understand what you are dealing with. I went so far as to move out of state for several weeks to look, but no luck. I came back to this area and was finally fortunate enough to land a job through a temp agency and then was asked me to stay on as a regular employee. You might want to try that way...through temp agencies. Take the temp jobs as they come up...even if only for a day or so. They would be more than likely to call the people they know who are eager to work. That's my belief, however. I wish you the best of luck.

My sister is also on pins and needles, working for a newspaper on Long Island. They are laying off on a fairly regular basis. Time for a lot of us to keep any options open.
