I am considering Wilkes Barre as a new location for my luxury retail store, but am very unfamiliar with the area. What shopping district would you suggest for luxury items? We would fit well with furnishings, jewelry, etc. Ample parking and highway accessibility would be very important. Thanks.

Hmm, don't know how well that type of store would do in Wilkes Barre. Luxury store would probably be more successull in the more affluent areas like the Abingtons, Clarks Summit or Dallas. I live in Dallas, and there are a handful of stores here that sell luxury items, handbags, jewelry, etc.

You may do well at the Shoppes at Montage in Moosic as well. As EnyaGirl said I'd also scope out the Abingtons (maybe State Street in Downtown Clarks Summit or one of the shopping centers in Chinchilla) or the Back Mountain area. Wilkes-Barre proper has a downtown that is rapidly making a comeback, but it is not quite there (yet) to support high-end luxury boutiques. A handful of the ones in Downtown Scranton (Lavish, Outrageous, and a few others) seem to be thriving, but even there some other boutiques have folded over the past couple of years.

I too would love for you to look at downtown Wilkes-Barre, it is having a resurgance, many new buisnesses have opened, and continue to open. If that isn't what you are looking for then The Arena Hub Plaza, or Wilkes-Barre Commons marketplace would be your best choice.

Downtown WB for luxury shopping? The only shops that even come to mind when I think downtown WB are Barnes & Noble, the Gallery of Sound and that skeezy used CD store. Unless by luxury shopping you mean Starbucks and/or Dunkin Donuts and a handful of clubs.

Can you define what you mean by "luxury"? I find the description here in NEPA to be grossly misused. I only know of a handful of shoppes which one could consider "luxury" in the area. People in this area tend to think of Talbots and a few of the local shoppes named in replies as a luxury and they would not be considered such by industry standards.

Well I personally think the new Main Street/Northampton Street storefronts would be a very good spot for such a store.

That's a,, the reason more, because we need one. Don't forget, Bartakosky's has been downtown for years, they sell luxury items and jewelry ect.

I can't really say at this time the specific industry I'm in, only that it is a segment of shopping that is poorly represented in WB at this time. Our industry is closely compared to furniture, but also often draws comparisons with luxury automobiles.
