School walking routes graded | The Times Leader, Wilkes-Barre, PA (http://www.timesleader.com/news/School_walking_routes_graded_02-25-2010.html - broken link)

This whole article made me LOL.

There is a very simple, effective way to make it safer for students to walk to school - slow down, pay attention and heed the crossing guards, don't beep at kids who are crossing to hurry up.

My son goes to HME and the behavior I see from grown ups is appalling. Daily, there are people not listening to the crossing guards when they (the guards) use their stop sign - they drive right around them.

I've seen mothers dropping their kids off and then proceeding to honk at kids to hurry up walking across the street.

Furthermore, the HME grounds are just...disgusting. There has been broken beer bottles on the property outside the kindergarten rooms for almost two weeks now. My husband and I have called the school and the administration office every day this week and it still is not picked up.

There are empty six pack cartons, empty cig packs, and other random garbage strewn about the school grounds.

The school sends home papers about having pride and spirit in HME but how the heck can they say this without even keeping the property clean?

I agree...we have the same problems in Scranton. How do we expect kids to act when the adults set such a horrible example?
