I need a pediatric allergist who treats infants/toddlers with severe food allergies. I live near Burke, but am willing to travel for a very knowledgeable professional. Good bedside manners are a plus. Thanks in advance.

We use Otolaryngology Associates, P.C. - Office Locations (http://www.entmds.net/offices.html - broken link). Dr. Batti is outstanding, as is Dr. Bahadori. We have seen them for ear issues, but it's my understanding that they deal with the allergies as well. If anything, I would call their office, ask about allergies and if they don't treat them get a rec from them. We've had outstanding service there with docs and our daughter's palate and ear issues.

The Pediatric Lung Center (where I take my son to see his pulmonologist) added an allergist to their practice last year. Her name is Dr. Anne Miranowski. We have seen her two or three times and she very nice and has a sweet disposition with the kids. I don't hesitate to recommend her.

When my son was younger, he used to see Dr. Wilbur in Springfield. His practice wasn't pediatric but the office was fine with little kids.

At any rate, Dr. Miranowski's office is great as they do not overbook their patients and in the 9 years I've been to that practice, I've never had to wait or anything terrible. Great practice.

Edited to add: They are located off Prosperity Avenue in Fairfax.

Dr Mellis is a great Dr in Reston. He also has locations in Leesburg and Centreville. He isn't pediatric per say, but he does accept children and he is a very nice man. (A friend of a friend took her 7 month old to him for a lego stuck up the nose!) His partner is Dr Bergman.

Good luck!

The BEST pediatric allergist around is Dr. Wood at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. It takes about 6 mos to get in. This man has absolutely no bedside manner but he is definitely the best around. All of my son's docs recommended him. Google him and you'll see what I mean. He's worth the drive--and the wait.

I would NOT recommend Dr. Donna Schuster in Herndon. She has no bedside manner either but didn't really seem to know what she was talking about.

Why would she want to see an ear nose throat doctor for a food allergy condition??

go to to the allergy & asthma specialists in Gainesville (by Heritage Hunt). They do kids and adults. Could not be happier. I believe they also have an office in Fairfax. They also have a food allergy website Wheat Soy Milk Peanut Treenut Shellfish Egg Beef food allergies

If your child has severe food allergies, I agree that you should definitely see a board-certified pediatric allergist. There is a lot of misinformation that I have seen given out by otherwise very good pediatricians with respect to food allergies. Here is a web site where you can check if someone is board-certified: AAAAI - Patients & Consumers: Find An Allergist: Search. I also suggest that you see an allergist who specializes in food allergies, in particular. It is in many ways a new field in which advances and changes are being made all the time, and it is important to me that we stay on top of those.

We also see Dr. Robert Wood at Johns Hopkins. He is one of the leaders in his field and I am glad that his office is close enough that we can see him. I have no complaints about his bedside manner, and his nurses with whom I have dealt are spectacular. The drawback is that it can take 9 months to get an appointment. If you need to see someone sooner, perhaps his office can make a recommendation - maybe even someone else in the department at Hopkins. (410) 955-5883.

Also, you didn't ask for this part, but if you aren't a member of the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (foodallergy.org), I highly recommend it to you. It happens to have its headquarters in Fairfax, but is a nationwide non-profit organization that sponsors research, disseminates information to parents and the community, and lobbies for relevant legislation. It is the single-best resource I have found in the 10 years that we have been dealing with food allergies.

Good luck!

agree with above. Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network is the best website for food allergies. i agree that even some good pediatricians seems to give conflicting results about food allergies, i often feel like i learn more stuff from that website than some of the doctors i've been to! from my experience, we've been going to see dr.kim who specializes in food allergies. he is located in lorton, va at the allergy & asthma center. he has been very good with us and i finally feel like we have things under control with my son's asthma and allergy issues. good luck!
