Hi = my mother in law is considering relocating to the NoVA area to be near us and the grandkids. She's 69 so wants somewhere that she will be comfortable when she gets older and less mobile. We live in Round Hill...I don't know what her budget is but I'm assuming less than $200K for a condo. What would be the best, retiree friendly, community within 20-30 mins of us?

Leisure World in Leesburg is the closest one to you I can think of, it's a 55+ community. There are some in Ashburn but they are more than her budget. I live in a great 55+ community in Sterling (Lowes Island) but they also would be over her budget.

Don't forget to check out the condo fee, that can add considerably to the monthly payment. You might want to consider a one level rancher or rambler, rather than a condo.

If they want to be near you, I'd look for a place in Purcellville or maybe Leesburg.

Margery: I love the cute bridge in the middle of the 55+ complex where you live. I go over that bridge almost every day as part of my walking routine. I really like the complex you live in. I think someday when I'm old enough that will be the place we choose to settle into.

I have some friends who live at LeisureWorld and they seem to like it a lot. What's nice is that there are a lot of things nearby. I tried retiring to a small town way out in the country, and that can feel a little isolating after awhile. It's good to have stores and a hospital and things to do within a close distance.

There's a lovely Westminster-Canterbury in Winchester, which would be a little further.
