Peak week is still a few weeks away, but I think we have enough feeling of fall in the air to start enjoying a few photos of our autumn colors.

Pumpkin shots, mum shots, mountains, rivers, scarecrows, houses with leaf piles out front--whatever your autumn shot may be I hope a lot of you add on to this thread.

Here's one to start us off:

I flew back into town this late afternoon after a weekend in the sunshine state. I noticed some hints of orange and red as we circled to land at Reagan National. I predict the leaves are going to be pretty!

The trees in Western Loudoun are definitely beginning to change. I saw some beautiful views today. Also saw some decorated farms and houses with cute scarecrows and pumpkins on hay bails. I'll try to remember to take my camera when I go out and post the pictures. But your pictures are always SOOOO beautiful. You have a real gift for photography.

We were in western Loudoun/eastern Fauquier counties today and the foliage really was starting to turn. (I'd post photos but they all have my kids in them!)

I sure hope so. I wonder if the hot-hot-hot weather in late September, followed by that torrent of rain, may have been too stressful for the leaves to have a spectacular display this year. Guess we'll find out in a week or so.

Meanwhile, here are some more photos:

These are two photos stitched together to show the entire statue. To the right is a man who has just thrown a frisbee, to the left is the dog catching it. This is an office park in Herndon.

Cascades Blvd. Love love love those big red bushes, they look like enormous cranberries!

I was down in Massanutten over the weekend(near Harrisonburg/JMU) visiting the wineries down there, and they had some color starting to speckle it's way through the green mountains. It should be coming soon, but definitely late this year. Lots of good pictures, but not much fall foliage in them. If anyone is ever out that way during the fall, Stone Mountain Vineyards has the best view of any winery in Virginia (it's just a treacherous dirt road to get up the mountain to them though!)

The peak colors should be very quick this year unfortunately. With the hot, dry summer we had, a lot of people have said the leaves are going to change color and fall off extremely quick this year, so get your pictures as soon as you see it!

GoHokies, those are awesome photos!!! Thanks for reminding me that I've got to get up to the mountains. It's been months since I've seen views like that, and this is the time of year when they're glorious.

Since it's a rainy day today, I thought you guys might enjoy seeing these photos from a rainy day last year.

Really beautiful photos Normie (and GoHokies too). Thanks for starting this thread Normie and all the beautiful pictures. I'm going to be away from the area the next 3 weeks (in southern Arizona of all places) starting tomorrow so I'm going to miss out on a lot of this, unfortunately.
