Are these stores really closing? (Burke, Springfield: for sale, rent, chapel)

On the corners of Old Keene Mill Rd and Rolling Rd and OKM Rd and Lee Chapel Rd in West Springfield/Burke there have been human sign holders advertising "closing forever; everything must go" mattress/bedding stores in the Old Keene Mill Shopping Center and Rolling Valley Mall, respectively. The holders have been waving these signs for months at these locations, so I have concluded that it's a ruse. How can a store be going out of business for months! Anyone else experience similar pitches in their communities? This reminds me of advertising I occasionally hear on the radio. For example, there is a local piano business that regularly advertises old pianos for sale at a GMU music facility. I thought pianos lasted longer than a few months, so I wonder what's really the situation behind these sales. More than one local flooring/carpet company advertises a second room free with the purchase of a first room of flooring or carpet. Yeah; sure!

Businesses in Virginia are required to get a permit to have a "going out of business" sale. See Virginia Code § 18.2-223 and § 18.2-224 for details.

There used to be a Roy Rogers there years ago, they went out of business without any warning. It's some kind of coffee shop now I think.

LOL, back where I lived in Redondo Beach there was a rattan gifts/furniture shop that was "going out of business" for 4-5 years, and was still going out of business when we moved (and a year later when I came back for a visit). Then the next year I came back again and to my shock it had actually gone out of business!

I heard that when it really went out of business nobody came to the sale because nobody believed it.

I've been seeing persian rug stores going out of business around here for the last 20 years. My theory is they don't pay their rent on time, lose their space, and then move on to some new location where they do the same thing a couple years later.

Statecollege, I've been driving past those sign wavers for MONTHS also! I keep wondering when they'll finally be done. Maybe never?

and before that it was a Burger Chef--remember them? Burger Chef and Jeff? (rolling and OKM).

A jewerly store in Gainesville has gone out of business at least 3 times over the years. Even with the "steep" discounts it's still over priced. It stuns me that this store stayed open and World Market had to close for lack of business.

I remember Burger Chef it was a Mcdonalds wanna be, their burgers were so nasty I hated it when my family would go there because it was a lot closer than Mcdonalds.
