What's the youngest GS 13,14,15, or SES you know? (home, transfer)

Recently met a GS-15 who was 27 years old. She was quite intelligent and her presence was astounding; commanded respect.

Anyone met some young leaders in the govt.?

The youngest 13s I know are about 27. Had I not made a lateral transfer I could potentially have been a GS-13 next year at 26.

I don't know any GS-15s that young though, that's pretty impressive.

I know of an SES in her late 30s. She's been one for a few years so it obviously happened early for her.

Youngest SES I knew was 33. I became a GS-14 at 27 (I was one of the many Presidential Management Fellows, if that program still exists), but I left the government to be home for my family. My former supervisor was also a PMF and she became a GS-15 at 27.

For me, it's a close friend of mine I grew up with...he's something like a 14-7 and he's only 30. He was an accountant for years, doing government auditing and working way too many hours a day, but he wound up being converted and given an equivalent salary in the 14 grade. Not bad at all for his age. I guess it was worth it in the end, but man did he work way too much when he was younger.

If you start at a GS-9, do you move to 11 after a year, and then what the next year and after that?

GS15 - 29, only got that high as she had some family (High SES level) connections. She wasn't worth her salt even as a GS12.

It honestly depends on whether the position is coded as a GS-X 'target' GS-X+[Y], e.g. GS-9 target 12, or simply a GS-X. The ones codes as 'target'-are fairly quick moves up if you do okay, because the job is INTENDED for you to eventually be at the target if you hit all the gates, and it's about one move up a couple of grades every year-so a GS-5 target 9, would usually be GS-5 one year, GS-7 one year, GS-9 at start of third year. You can get the grade increase without having to compete for it.

If it's a straight GS-9, you could remain a GS-9 for the rest of your career unless you apply for a different position.

Timely bump...I actually just picked up my GS-13. Of course, I'm 33, so compared to the people being talked about in this thread, I feel underaccomplished.

That friend I mentioned above when I originally posted is still doing well, in charge of a division of people, but currently suffering through furloughs.
