My company is tied to fairfax county government inclement weather decision.. last year during mega storms, ffx gvnt was one of the last to close - one day opened for a few hours and then closed during the second megastorm (way to manage a budget shortfall- make it "liberal leave" so everyone can use up their vacation). Fortunately, my company went ahead and closed early anyway.. Here's hoping they have a heart this year if the snowfall is great and conditions are that bad...

As predicted, ...already gave the cop out "liberal leave" so employees can use up their vacation.. it's only 8:30 .. does anyone have a recollection of a government changing the inclement weather decision? I remember way back when I was in HS that the feds said they were open and the snow was so bad that they closed at noon- and that caused a huge disaster of accidents.. how about "retracting" a decision- especially this early?

I don't understand how it's fair that people have to use their own vacation time because of the weather - is that territory that just comes with living in states that get snow?

Yeah its just one of those things mainly. Other parts of the US have weather related events that cause people to have to leave early or not come in on time and those employees also have to take liberal leave.

I am an IT contractor. My employer decided to close today and let all the employees work from home. The contractors were told to "take the day off". That means I don't get paid. I drove in anyway so I would get paid.

Does that also mean if you work from home, you still don't get paid or have to use your vacation time?

IT contractors usually need to be in the building to work the issues - but I'm sure kevinm will be able to answer that.
