I need recommendations to keep visiting family entertained on Saturday April 2

I had planned:
Walk 1.5 miles to metro stop
Take metro down to Old Town Alexandria
Ride Trolley to Marina
Explore shops in old town then take water cruise to Georgetown
Walk to Foggy Bottom and go to zoo
Reverse on way home.

Now the weekend weather says it is going to rain. They will all walk (under protest) in nice weather. But not in the rain (I'm fairly certain the In-Laws trace straight line descent from the Wicked Witch of the West.)

What to do with an eight and a ten year old with approximately a 30 millisecond attention span on Saturday? Out-of-the-house suggestions please! They have done the Smithsonian to death on previous visits.

Might be too far but a day trip to Luray Caverns?

There's always the usual -- Laser Tag? Ice Skating? Bowling? Movie? Worst case scenario --Chuck E. Cheese?

Good luck.

Thanks Lynchburg but after 10 hours of DVD and XBox in the minivan a two and a half hour trip to Luray is probably not the best option.

They can do lazer tag, movie, Chuckie etc at home.

What's unique to NoVa/MD/DC that would be suitable?

Done already. Also Air and Space, downtown and Chantilly. I really am hard up, which is why I asked.

Confused... are you trying to do all that in ONE day? I'd only pick one thing per day to do. I wouldn't do Alexandria AND Georgetown AND the zoo in one day. The Georgetown area recently flooded where the boats dock at, so you might need to scratch that off your list.

Girls? Doll house museum in Chevy Chase? Trip to the top of the National Cathedral -- you can see all over Washington.

Boys? This might be a little out there, depending on your personal views, but the NRA museum in Fairfax.

My last idea -- the Planetarium in Arlington -- http://www.apsva.us/1540108291847373/blank/browse.asp?A=383&BMDRN=2000&BCOB=0&C=54909 (broken link)

Good luck.

I have a friend who takes her out-of-town guests to Wegmans. Seriously. I don't get it, but maybe the kids would really enjoy it.

I can't imagine and 8 and 10 year old would enjoy Wegman's. My 74 y/o MIL loves Wegman's but she lives in the boonies so that's understandable.

I took my 15 y/o and his 14 y/o friend to the Newseum this summer. I enjoyed it, the 14 y/o was dying to get out of there and the 15 y/o was mildly entertained by it. They liked the gift shop the best.

I really can't think of anything but I'd be inclined to look for some show geared towards kids that's going on in DC that they might enjoy.
