Just looking for a random sampling I guess...especially metro people. Where do you commute from and how long does it take? (Yep, you guessed it, trying to figure out where to live). Thanks!

I live in Leesburg and commute to Leesburg in 8-12 minutes. Yeah, not helpful at all.

It'll also help if we know your budget and your desire for housing (whether a condo/TH is okay, your budget, whether schools matter, etc.)

For a generic family whose budget is $500k that wants a SFH in a good school district, I'd look at West Springfield.

I used to. I was lucky enough to be able to catch a bus just outside my house that went directly to the Pentagon. Better still, I could slug in. I was there in about 20 minutes. Then the Franconia/Springfield Metro station opened and the party was over. Instead of going straight to the Pentagon, they hauled us to Metro. From there we could hop yet another bus to the P'gon or take Metro. Total time: about 40 minutes. The next best option then was to park at Springfield Plaza and catch the 18 bus to the P'gon. That took 30-40 mins, total. Yep, I live in Springfield.

Used to take the 18 bus to the Pentagon everyday, this was before they built the new bus sheds there.

I take the 29G bus from Annandale to the Pentagon - time on the bus alone is about 30 minutes.

If at all possible, look for a place with more than one line going to the Pentagon from the same stop - the higher the frequency of buses you can take, the more you can avoid the annoyance of worrying about timetables, or a particular bus being late.

Interesting, thanks! We're looking at staying inside the mixing bowl with a 3+ bedroom SFH (renting) for 2000-3000.

My commute from Alexandria near Braddock Metro takes between 15 and 25 minutes by car (depending on time of day), and about the same time by bike.

I learned my lesson after driving it one day and it took 1 1/2 hrs. (something obviously was wrong).

You may want to factor in the uncertainty about the traffic increase caused by the BRAC move to the Marc Center in Alex.
