hi,
i've been trying to insure my dune buggy for some time now.....it's currently insured by my primary insurance Allstate.....liability only......100/300/50 for 160 every 6 months!

this seems a bit too much....doesn't it?

The car is street legal with antique plates....driven about 1000 miles a year.

Do you know any other insurance company that would insure this? (i called Gaico, statefarm, nationwide and they said they don't unless i have all my cars/house/rental property insured with them!)

I use Hagerty on a vintage VW that has antique plates. I pay $133 a year. Full replacement value on the car.

***Edited*** Just checked...they specifically say they don't cover Dune Buggies...so nevermind.

what determines whether it's a dune buggy or not?
mine looks almost identical to this one: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/...meyersmanx.jpg

I would call them and ask. I think they just don't want to insure a car people will be offroading in due to higher risk of damage. I saw some posts online that hagerty will insure certain dune buggies, like real meyers manx due to their status as collectables...

You can also check grundy, who I also got a quote from, but I don't remember what it was, I think slightly higher than hagerty.
