Hello! My family and I are moving to the Dc area in 9 months and we need help finding out where it would be best for us to live. My husband and I lived in NOVA (Lorton) back in 2003 and thought it was a bit on the ghetto side.

This time around, we would like to live in a predominately white (or very upper middle-class) area. We are looking for somewhere safe, family-friendly,with private school options for our little girl. We are looking for a 3 bedroom condo anywhere in the $2,300 to $2,700 price range. We intend to rent initially for 6 months while we look for a place to buy, but would love to live somewhere in the aforementioned in the meantime. My husband's job is based in Mclean, so something within 30 miles would be ideal (we know how DC traffic is!)

Right now, we live a part of San Diego that is trying desperately, with no avail, to become it's own city. Thus, it is immensely suburban and has brought in various ethnicity, many of whom are of lower socioeconomic status and class. This has created low-income housing which brought our value and our community down immensely in the last 2 years.

We want to make sure we stay away from an up-and-coming area and find something that is well established and would not allow much room for redevelopment and that is, again, exclusively upper middle class. Sorry if I sound like a snob. I've lived and dealt with lower class populations (I also work with them!) for much to long and it's very upsetting when my nearly half a million dollar condo loses value because the city caters to these people. Your help is much appreciated!

Any reason you want to move to the DC area? I'd recommend trying to finding something in Roanoke and points SW, although Virginia Tech may have too many minorities for your taste.

The only place I know that would meet your needs would be a bit farther than 30 miles from McLean. It's called Montana.

Not upper middle class enough. Don't want them cattle ranchers bringing down property values.

Or Vermont....but that area would be way too poor....lots of single and double wides and rusty cars in the fields!
