Near 495, as early as 6:30.

If anyone else is going nuts with this, I was given the Fairfax County non-emergency number, (703) 691-2131
and the FAA number (718) 553-3100.

They are saying "No one called us about it" so if it's making you nuts too, please give them a call and perhaps they will do something about it.
This morning it was a black single-roto w/ a bubble cockpit.

You live in the National Capital area. This is not all that uncommon, and there is probably nothing that you, or anyone else can do about it. My guess is that it is Military and/ or Government related. Besides, I think most noise abatement laws apply only between hours like 11pm and 6am.

May I suggest going outside and yelling at the hellicopter?
That MIGHT relieve some of your stress and frustration

It sounds better than they ones they had while living in Los Angeles...the choppers there usually had spotlights shining down from them making choppy, zig-zaggy movements.

When we first moved here we were clueless and bought off a stupid busy road (primarily during rush hour)
The worst is having to hear all the school buses go by and it was nice during the summer.
The copters could have been military , police or even traffic coptors.

Well, if its a single rotor, bubble type, its not a FCPD one, or a medivac.

Fox, NBC all of them own small helicopters that they use to monitor traffic...
