I have been quoted around $1,600 for timing belt and water pump for Honda Accord 2004 V6...this seems high to me. Any suggestions? Like to be east of Gainesville and no further south than Quantico. Thanks.

Love love love my mechanic. Very reasonable prices, quick turn around, and won't charge you for stuff you don't need.

Replacing the timing belt, water pump, and idle pulley on my 1994 Toyota Corolla was around $1200.

Its not an easy repair and most of that price is labor costs.

If you're in Arlington, the top two shops for Japanese cars are Japanese Auto Care on Glebe and Japanese Auto Clinic on Lee Highway.

$1600 sounds like too much to me. I had my timing belt, water pump and drive belt replaced on my Volvo earlier this year. I paid $950 at Curry's in Gainesville. Half of that price was labor. Curry's has 9 locations in the area.

If it's the Honda dealer, then the price is about right. I spent roughly the same amount a few years ago for my Toyota Camry.

funny....the $1,600 was Curry's. Called some of the other places recommended and around $850.

I have used Japanese Auto Clinic, and the shop does excellent work and I have not had an issue with a repair from that shop for Acura or Lexus. I had typed a reply, but was mobile and the battery died before I hit "reply."

Next time don't buy a car with a timing belt... rather buy one with a timing chain (i.e. toyota)

Spent about that much on my Ford Focus, in San Antonio no less. Damn those interference engines.
