I admittedly did not read the article, however it is absolutely mandatory for trademark owners to protect their trademarks.

Or they will lose them.

I feel the same way, even though I am a resident of nearby Winchester, not Berryville. Places like Shenandoah U are trying to make a name for the arts out here so it's important to the local community.

Yeah, but (to me) it seems that "The Barns" is ambiguous. I've seen similar trademarks in businesses, for example, "Father & Son" or "The Daily Grind" used by businesses which have no connection to each other or in a similar business (i.e., coffee) but not related to one another. Or how many "Heritage Stations" or "Dominion Stations" do we have in NoVA/VA?

Which is why Kleenex and Xerox no longer own their brands and they can be used freely by anyone.

I'm curious who these companies are who've lost control of their names and can no longer prevent a competitor from confusing consumers by using them. Please provide examples.

Are you REALLY attempting to debate about trademark stuff?

Aspirin.

Elevator.

Escalator.

NOT Coke.
