Based on responses to a previous post, we are now more closely examining communities in Centreville for our upcoming move (young family with two kids under age 7).

In doing our search, we came across a community called Faircrest (a couple of older posts mention it in passing). What is your impression of this particular community? Is it good for young children? What are the town homes like? Are there similar neighborhoods we should look at? Also, considering traffic flows, is Faircrest conveniently located to St. Andrew the Apostle School (6720B Union Mill Road, Clifton) and George Mason?

Also -- does anyone know anything about some (apparently) new town homes listed in a street called Riverwind Terrace? Are these part of some established community? (A google search for Riverwind Terrace Homes will bring up the listings).

Thanks all for any help you can provide!!

I drive through there every day, but don't know anyone that lives there. I've never driven through all the streets but it looks slim on common areas. I wonder how many playgrounds, etc there are. This location would be convenient to Union Mill and George Mason. Me, I'm not a big fan of Centreville, but this location is close to Fair Lakes and more convenient to Fairfax, etc

I'm not sure where exactly this new subdivision is, but what schools does it feed to?

This is neither good nor bad, but it is a very asian-heavy neighborhood.

It was also built during the housing boom, so there have been a lot of foreclosures in the neighborhood.

I live in Centreville and like the area. Faircrest is in a great location in Centreville -- very close to Fair Lakes. Schools are very good.

I have many of my clients living in that neighborhood. Biggest draw when the builders (Pulte Homes and Winchester Homes) sold was the location right off 66 and Fair Lakes pocket. Good news is Faircrest were left out when the big rezoning of the Centreville School happend last year. At present Stringfellow is getting expanded so we do see bit of back up near high school. Hopefully that will clear up after the construction is over. The neighborhood also has pool, club house, tennis court and other amenities.

The town home you had mentioned on Riverwind are new construction by local builder. I have one of my client who was initially considering to purchase it. However there are other resale home options that are in mid $400K bit older(built-in 2005-2007) in and around Faircrest. The traffic to get from 29 to 28/66 is bit crazy during rush hour. Since Route 29 is also accessed by PW resident of Bristow and Haymarket area lot of commuter use that as a back road. If you are planning to go that far might well us consider South Riding/Chantilly area.

Speaking of 66, If youre qualified to drive on the HOV there's an exit right off Stringfellow directly to 66 during morning rush, and the reverse in the afternoon rush

Default Faircrest area schools

Hello

I am in the same situation as well. Does anyone have first hand experience about the schools in the area. I live in Fairfax and love it here, but it is too expensive for us to buy here. How does centreville compare to fairfax when it comes to the crowd and quality of schools and general vibe.

We are mainly considering faircrest and also thinking about the new homes coming up.

We are a couple but hope to start a family soon and schools are very important in our decision.

thank you for ur inputs
