My kids saw some silkworms recently. They fell in love with them, particularly when the worms are eating the mulberry leaves. Does anyone know where I can get some fresh Mulberry leaves in and around Northern Virginia/DC/MD? (I am hoping some may have Mulberry tree in your backyard) I understand that silkworms can live with powdered chow, but it’s not as fun to watch anymore. I’m ordering the eggs online and pretty soon we will need fresh mulberry leaves. Please advise me. Thank you!

That's what I would suggest, too. Get to a garden center and ask there about planting one.

Growing up in Texas, a lot of people had mulberry trees (usually fruitless), and these worms were a huge problem. One would see huge portions of trees covered in webs. I remember Dad blasting the backyard with this DDT-grade chemical called Sevin, attached to the garden hose. In the late '70s, organophosphates were part of the food pyramid!
