What is Culpepper like, I am thinking of living there? I do not mean any disrespect, but I am a non-caucasian professional, and am wondering if I would feel unwelcome or uncomfortable there? Thinking about working and/or living there or nearby.

It's Culpeper (only 2 p's). I don't think you'd feel uncomfortable there. Virginians can be conservative but racism seems to be dying out.

Two: Demographics:
Culpeper, Virginia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Note that it is not a wealthy area. Note, too, that lots of folks are moving south (er southwest); the population grew by 50% bewteen 2000 and 2007.
Three: It's got a fun airport to fly in and out of. Looks like it's been renovated since I flew there.
Four: You could probably buy LOTS of land and plunk cowna McMansion on it for next to nothing, but Culpeper is just the otherside of Warrenton and Warrenton has gone through the roof so expect that soon (if not already). Heck of a commute to around Fairfax, I would think, but not TOO bad to, say, Southwest Manassas.

It is rural, even tho' there is a "downtown" area, with some fun stuff in the summer (concerts, festivals, etc...)

My ancestors left there in the 1770s so can't speak from personal accounts but it seems like a nice place whenever I take a drive through there.

Actually in many ways culpeper is about as amazing of a land use as you get. The rural areas are very rural and the town of culpeper itself is highly dense (atleast for central virginia standards). I love culpeper (I know shocking to many of you that know me as a snobby city folk). There is some great restaurant choices in town, I love the B&Bs, I love the foothills, and I love the wineries.
Thumbs up.
Oh and the whole town is very walkable. Now if you are planning on living in Culpeper and driving to Arlington, DC, or Tysons to work, then I am gonna be annoyed at you

In small towns I have noticed that the "gang problem" consists of about a half dozen kids or so that have decided to adopt a gang affiliation for themselves because they think it is cool or something and hang on a couple of street corners.
