I seem to ask this a lot and end up going nowhere. Nevertheless, I will try again.

Looking to leave the hood and house for Easter weekend and two more days, or so. Reasonably isolated, but safe, since I am just an old guy, pensioner living alone.

If the drive on Friday would not be too far and hard, a beach place would be great. Usually, I head for hills, but wanted to hear and see waves again.

Kitchen, one bedroom, maybe working fireplace, and room to roam outside are wanted. Small town or place to get some groceries or go to a bar or restaurant would be good addition so I do not have to haul or cook everything.

Your help will be much appreciated and I will tell you how it goes, if I go.

Thank you.

For a beach, Cape May! It's not isolated, but it's a cute little victorian vacation town that is still nearly deserted this time of year. We usually head up there for a weekend in May, and can walk blocks only seeing a couple other people. Once we're there, we park the car and walk everywhere (except we drive to the dog friendly beach a couple miles away--and are usually the only ones on the whole beach).

We stay at the Madison Avenue Beach Club (because they let us bring our pup, but also because it's cheap!) Under $100/night for a room with a kitchenette.

If you don't want to be in a town, then forget about it. It's definitely a small town, not completely isolated.

The drive isn't bad so long as you can avoid rush hour. We've alternated between taking the ferry from Lewes and driving. Driving was faster, but the ferry was fun.

If you don't mind driving country roads for about an hour or so I understand there are some really nice B&Bs and inns in Gloucester, VA. Some have beaches, some are simply on the water. They tend to have bicycles and kayaks for the guests to use. You are about an hour from Williamburg and Hampton Roads, and maybe 90 minutes from Richmond if you get tired of being out in the quiet countryside. I haven't been there myself--this is simply something I've heard about. But I've seen photos and it looks lovely at this time of year. Also, nobody's there partying on spring break.

If you want waves...go to the ocean!!! The bay won't cut it! Of course, ocean areas aren't isolated....but this time of year, you certainly won't have the summer crowds that will be there in a month or so!

Great idea! I forgot about that and often, with available time, took the ferry just for the fun aspect while going up to visit mom in Northern NJ. Thanks

Thanks. One reply seems to say this is on the Bay. is that true? I have to agree that waves are in the ocean, not the bay. At least waves that sooth the savage beast of too damn much work and too many people with their hands on my wallet. [Yeah, I am a grumpy old man, definitely]

Yes, I was thinking of the area near Mathews. Probably not much surf there, just a pretty area on the water.

A good place that is relatively isolated this time of the year is Tilghman Island in the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay. No waves there, but the view of the bay is incredible. And its very close by is St. Michaels, which is a really nice and very picturesque town. Its just a 2.5 hour drive from Northern Virginia.
