I have to play host to work associates traveling here from Oklahoma next week. I'm looking for impressive but not too expensive restaurant in Old Town Alexandria.

Suggestions?

The Wharf or the Warehouse for American/seafood, Landini Brothers for Italian, Majestic for southern American, Virtue Feed & Grain for elevated Irish pub grub, Brabo for mussels

Vermillion is wonderful, but it is pretty pricey. I think it may be out of the OP's budget.

Just remembered, Light Horse is another option - they've changed things up there for the better quite a bit in the last several months

If you want to go Asian, Mai Thai at the bottom of King St. is pretty good and has tables with views of the river. It has a nice atmosphere and won't bust your budget.

Slightly more homey but very good is Southside 815, on S. Washington St. Not really a "business lunch" kind of place, but if they like Southern food, it could be a good option.

My favorite is Bastille. It is expertly made french food (I got the best seared duck breast, fantastic chops, fries come with REAL hand made aioli not mayo mixed with garlic) and best of all its half the price of the "other french places" in alexandria. The wine selection is also good and not a ripoff, they have several 30 dollar bottles that aren't woodbridge reserve or Beringer. And its the only place I have seen that makes Coq au vin correctly, not just chicken with redwine reduction but an actual aged hen braised in the wine broth. (The legit deal)

The reason why its better is because its not directly on the drag of king street. Its over by the old plant on N Royal Street, but I have never heard a single bad word about them.
