As a welcome back occasion, I got invited to my friend's BBQ in Manassas off of Dumfries Rd on Saturday. Now I'll be living in Arlington near Ft. Myer and am familiar with the traffic on I-95 South during the weekends. I always took I-95 to get down to Manassas mainly b/c it made more sense when I was living in the Landmark area and it was ALWAYS a long hike. Now that I'm closer to I-66, I wonder if that would be a better option than I-95. I have a Google map of approx beginning and destination points enclosed.

Help me out here.

How early is the BBQ? Is it early enough that the HOV lanes on 95 will be open? If so, definitely take 95.

If it's later in the day, I'd just check traffic and go whichever way has less.

Around 4pm. I'm thinking the HOV lanes on I-95 go North around that time if I remember correctly.

I avoid I-95 unless I-66 has been nuked. I find that 95 between Springfield and the Occoquan can be backed up any. time. of. the. day. This includes the HOV lanes.

I personally would go south on 395, get on 95 and take the PW Pkwy, then get on Hoardly. The way that the map gave you is horrible. 28 south has way too many lights. I used to live in Manassas briefly, but I had family and friends in PG County so when ever I went back and forth, 66 was a nightmare.

PW Pkwy has less lights, but I will say that at times it can get backed up in that area on 95 on Saturdays because of all the shoppers/vacationers. At that point you can detour onto Lorton Road, Silverbrook Road (I think you have to turn off because Lorton Road may still be damaged from flooding last year), Hooes Road to 123 then to Old Bridge Road to Minnieville Road, to 234.
