I can't believe no one has asked this already, but McDonnell thinks this might be a good way to prevent school shootings. How would you feel about sending your child to a school where teachers and administrators were armed? Do you think that would be more safe or less safe?

To me, as a former teacher, it's sheer lunacy. I think I'd have to homeschool. And I don't think I'd want to teach in a school like that, either.

And sorry for the typo in the title - can't fix it now.

Better question... How do we prevent evil throughout the entire United States? Answer: Impossible.

From what I know, it's not every teacher that will conceal a weapon. Certain school staff and administrators who are qualified to own and operate a gun will have one.

That being said, I don't think it will solve everything but neither will measures like gun control, etc.

I didn't get the impression he had any details worked out. Seemed like something he just threw out there. I would honestly be surprised if it gets any further, but who knows.

Personally, I don't like this idea, but I also really don't see this ever coming to fruition. The costs that would be associated with this idea would be huge.

HELL TO THE NO.

That is how I feel.

I will never understand this mentality. Never.

1. are teachers required to have a gun - that could be a big issue. If not, will having one or two people in the central office armed really help that much?

2. If teachers are allowed to but not required to have them, how will they be secured?

3. Lets say the principle has one - does he have to carry it around when he walks around the school?

4. Wait till the first time a school admin (or teacher) loses it and uses their gun improperly

That is what I think too, but we'll have to see what he has in mind in terms of the details. I wouldn't agree that EVERY teacher should have one, but the idea for certain people in the school would work. Obtaining a gun is already a lengthy process and it could be even longer due to the shootings in CT.

This is a bad idea. All it's going to take is for one student to find it and shoot someone or another madmen gets it and uses it to kill. Arming the teachers isn't the answer.

Question - do you want your child to associate a position of authority in this world as those who carry a gun? Image what a 5 year old educated jn that environment when he is 15 and facing challenges of his own associated with being a hormonal teenager. Think we've got a problem now, wait until this mentality grows up. This is the worst idea on the face of the earth.

If we can't teach our children the alphabet without armed guards around, then we've not only failed in them in terms of education and quality of life potential, but we have failed them as parents to provide them a place of safety. Having a gun around doesn't make a person feel safe, especially a child. It just makes them anticipate the level of fear that requires a gun in general, on a 24/7 basis. If we can't do this as Americans, then I guess it time to question being an American in general.
