Hello we are looking to move to the Northern Virginia / D.C area as result of a job relocation and have been considering some of the rental markets within the Potomac Club and Kingstowne area due to the amenties they seem to offer, can anyone present some similar communities within the Northern Virginia area that have similar amenties or present some highlights or negatives to either of these communities?

Potomac Club and Kingstowne are nothing alike in terms of surrounding area, other than pools and fitness centers. Potomac club is basically a gated townhouse community. It would greatly appeal to the person that just wants a decent new place to live with access to 95. And doesn't want to walk in the immediate area other than crossing the street to go to Wegmans! But Kingstowne is a much larger, tree lined community with SFH, TH's and Condo/Apts. Much more shopping - granted it is big box sort of stuff which some detest, but it is what it is. They are also getting a wegmans. Walking paths, trails, easy access to metrol and 95/495.

Which of those amenities is what you are looking for? Where are you working, how are you getting there, what is your budget? Are schools important? This will help people point you in the right direction.

Thank you for your reply, I will be working in the arlington area, and would prefer an area that has a family friendly atmosphere, is close to the metro, walking distance to shops, and has community amenities such as a pool and fitness center, from what I could tell potomac club seemed to be great on amenties but far from arlington which could be a negative for the community since we are planning on taking only one vehicle to the area, also you asked about price range, we would be looking to rent with a maximum budget of $2500 monthly.

The only thing you can walk to at Potomac club is the Wegmans shopping center. There are some other places open, but not what I would consider a place you went every day. There is literally nothing else on that street. And you would be relying only on car travel or slugging to and from work. You can find TH's in Kingstowne around that price range, albeit the smaller ones, maybe without a garage. Quick access to the metro. You can also find places in West Springfield/burke, maybe a little further away from the metro than Kingstowne, but not as far a Potomac Club. That area won't provide you with the planned community aspect it sounds like you are looking for, but is very family friendly with good schools.

You don't want to commute to Arlington from Potomac Club. They are building up that Wegmans shopping center with PF Chang's, DSW, and a handful of other stores and restaurants coming soon, but it's otherwise pretty far from everything else in the area. I felt far away when I lived in Lake Ridge, and that was still slightly further north of Potomac Club.

Thank you for the replies, it appears as if potomac club may be to far away for us, I definitely do not want a longer commute than necessary or the feeling of being isolated from what the.D.C area has to offer. Can anyone mention some other communities within the arlington area with good amenties?
