We are newer to the area and haven't been to Kings Dominion before. Live in Lake Ridge close to 95. We wanted to make a day trip to be back in 8 or 9 hours. Is traffic a big concern headed down or back on a weekday and is 6 hours or so enough time for just two people.

You will be fine. It will take you about an hour and 10 minutes. Six hours is good for two people. If it's really crowded or they aren't running to full speed on the rides, the waits may be long but overall you should be good.

If you can spare a couple extra hours, Busch Gardens in Williamsburg is a much nicer park. It's a theme park and an amusement park. Kings Dominion is fun, but it's more of an amusement park. I have fond memories of visiting both parks growing up.

Stay away from Six Flags.

Doesn't King's Dominion have more roller coasters than Busch Gardens?

I don't know what the current count is, but Busch Gardens' roller coasters are generally of higher quality. A new roller coaster just replaced the Big Bad Wolf at Busch G.

I'm a big fan of Kings Dominion for its roller coasters. I think BG is nice if you have kids because they have lots of other things but for coasters....Kings Dominion all the way. Depending on how busy the park is....I'm not sure if I would just stick to 6 hours....but if you can give or take a little then yes. I live in Manassas and do Kings Dominion in a day. I like to get there early and then leave around 4 or 5, so 6 or 7 hours.

Went to KD once, a few years ago. I was blown away by how fast the coasters were: vomit-a-kidney, temporary-glaucoma, are-my-legs-sweaty-or-is-that-something-else fast.

They must be fast judging by all the screaming and yelling. I'm at King's Dominion a lot in the summer and the bus parking lot is right next to one of the coasters. After an hour or two of screaming I have to get off the bus. I go into the park and find a shady spot to sit and read (or girlwatch). Thankfully, they let bus drivers into the park for free.
