So I am considering getting an EZPass and was wondering if anybody uses one from out of state? The fees for Virginia (50 cents or $1 a month) are higher than Pennsylvania for example ($3 a year). The Flex Pass is only available here, but I currently don't need one of those.

I don't use one but I have a friend that does regularly around Virginia. $3 vs. $6 vs. $12 per year...who cares...

Me. I don't use it so much to offset a dollar per month. And I'm cheap.

We got ours through New York state even before Virginia had them. We've used it for about a dozen years. FYI: the ones in Massachusetts are free.

That would be great, but I don't think I'd plan on going to Mass to get one, whereas I'll be in PA next week.

You can order them online - no need to go there. We just got EZ-Pass here in NC, and everyone here was ordering them from Mass b/c there was no charge.

I now know that one of ours is from Pennsylvania. A couple months ago when we got a new vehicle, I spent a half hour on the phone with the VA EZ Pass support team trying to add the new car and we could not figure out why they couldn't find the account. Something happened that we got disconnected, and I called back. As I started talking to the second agent, one of the first questions she asked was "Is your unit from Virginia?" Ummm...now that I look at it...No! Totally forgot that it had been purchased in PA years ago! A quick visit to the PA EZ Pass website and it was updated with no problem.

Mine is from Delaware. Overall I am happy with it, but the major drawback is if something goes wrong. For some reason my EzPass isn't working anymore on the Bay Bridge (although I haven't gotten a ticket). I think the battery might be dead, but I have to go back to Delaware so they can look at it. Not a big problem as I go there often... but it would be a pain for someone who got one there and didn't drive passed the EzPass office in Dover all the time.

Do you lie about where you live? I just went to the MA site, and the first question it asks is the state in which you reside. As soon as I selected Virginia, it booted me to a VDOT site.

I have a Pennsylvania EZ-Pass from when I lived up there. I don't drive on toll roads all that much anymore, but I use it whenever I have to drive up to PA to see my parents.
