Hello. I would like to know the best route and mode to take when communting from Fredericksburg, Va to McLean, VA. Thanks!

There is really only one route as far as driving: I-95 North to 495 North.
It's a loooong way!

I'm not 100% sure about the VRE, it does go out to Fredericksburg but going North it goes into DC, not to Tyson's. But you could check it out at http://www.vre.org/

Another possibility would be "slugging", catching a commuter ride in a parking lot, then you can ride in the HOV lane. http://www.slug-lines.com/

That is a horrible commute. Even in non-rush hour traffic, it will run you a little over an hour. During rush hour, you can count on an hour and a half at least. More likely, closer to two hours each way.

Public transport-wise, you can bypass the brunt of the horrific traffic and take VRE to either Crystal City or Alexandria and then a bus to McLean, although McLean is very sprawly and decentralized, so a walk to the bus stop may be quite the trek.
