Would really appreciate any guidance in where to find the best Fall colors for taking pictures/family portraits. Preferable around Fairfax/Centreville/Chantilly, but can also drive further out. Thanks!!

I always enjoyed the gorgeous Fall foliage while driving along Georgetown Pike in Great Falls. Another scenic drive is Route 7 between Leesburg and Winchester. Even walking some of the nature trails in Reston can be nice, too. I think it may be a bit past peak color already, though. We were at Fallingwater, Frank Lloyd Wright's house in Southern PA, this past Tuesday, and many of the leaves had already fallen off the trees. I'd imagine by next week the leaves will also be mostly gone in NoVA.

A little further out but worth the drive to the country -- Blandy Farm, the State Arboretum of Virginia, is on Route 50 in Clarke County. There is a gorgeous gingko grove that turns bright yellow. Also, in Clarke, there is Historic Long Branch, which has beautiful scenery. The Appalachian Trail goes through at Weather Mountain off Route 7, west of Purcellville. The view is amazing.

At the corner of Sudley & Lee Highway at the Battlefields where the stone house is, walk up the hill. The view is fantastic and would make a very pretty back drop in pictures from both directions

Georgetown Pike has a couple of churches with large parking lots, as well as Langley HS.

I don't think the trees will lose all their leaves soon, though. We have a small maple in our backyard, and its leaves are still green. Our oaks still have most of their leaves too.
