So he ticketed a car with make/model/plate AND color matching your car?

My parents were once pulled over by a police who had a plate scanner. It turned out that their plate did not match the car/make, a mistake by DMV and they had been driving around for several years with a wrong plate (off by a digit perhaps) without knowing. They ended up having to get new plates.

He actually remembered that the car he ticketed was not my car make/model but insisted that the plates that were on the vehicle in violation were in fact registered to me/my vehicle...essentially he thinks that maybe I took my plates off and let a friend borrow them for a different car. I suppose that's why he wrote down my vehicle info but I would think it would also be useful to write down the car description of the one that was actually there.

I really think I'm gonna just get some new plates as your parents did as I don't want to go through this nonsense again.

Sorry to hear about that but glad it worked itself out in the end. I always wondered what happens with close but not the same vanity plates. XKCD convinced me it would go a different way xkcd: License Plate .
