Hi,

I would like everyones opinion. I am new to NOVA and I currently live in Leesburg. I love it here and i have no plans on moving (kids like it here), spouse works in DC. Anyeay, I got two job offers after looking for a job for 2.5 months, the field i work in is filled with professionals. One is my dream job, but it is in Winchester 50 miles. The other offer is good but not in the industry I would like its in Fairfax. Both salaries are the same, benefits and work hours 9-5. Which would you choose.

Winchester -- much easier commute and it's in the industry you seek. Even though there is nasty weather on the mountain sometimes, you would be going against traffic and it is a much less stressful drive. The scenery alone will lower your blood pressure.

Winchester.

Even though it's farther, the time in the car will likely be about the same but will be a much easier drive. Plus, that job is your dream job. Congrats on receiving two job offers!

I'd much rather drive to Winchester than Fairfax every day. It'll take as long but by such a nicer commute. And a reverse commute!

Winchester, Winchester, Winchester. Dream job and a lovely (albeit a bit long) drive!

You will hate driving to Fairfax. I-66 will drive you crazy everyday. I would prefer to drive Winchester.

It's the same as in Leesburg. Now, since it is farther west, there is the chance that it will accumulate more snow than Leesburg (depending on the actual storm); but not a huge difference overall from Leesburg.

How often has the mountain been dangerous to drive / closed. I get a ton of pto time that i plan to use for bad weather, just wondering as i heard it could be bad.

The road has issues several times a year, usually winter months. It can get icy/snowy and fog is a problem, too. VDot does a very good job keeping Route 7 passable. As long as you have pto flexibility, I think you'll be fine. The rotten weather days would not be very different than driving to Fairfax. I used to go from Western Loudoun to Winchester almost daily for a number of years and weather wasn't a problem more than 4 or 5 times.

A bigger issue is accidents and there's no way to predict that. There are very, very limited options for going around the mountain. But you'll have problems on the toll road etc regarding accidents, too.

I'd still prefer Leesburg to Winchester -- reverse commute -- to anything in Fairfax, unless it's in the Reston/Herndon area.
