I work at Belvoir and agree with the above recommendations. If West Springfield is out of your budget, try directly north of the post between Route 1 and the GW Parkway. There are some neighborhoods that are probably far enough from the former to be safe-ish but far enough from the latter to not be freakishly expensive. There are some nice townhouses/condos in Belle View and Belle Haven (just south of Old Town) and others farther south.
