My friend and I will be graduating soon and are looking to move to Arlington. We've already started looking at apartments in the three neighborhoods I mentioned above but I wanted to learn more about the demographics of the areas. My roommate and I will preferably want a crowd that's closer to our age as we will both be moving here from out of state and would like to meet new people. We also want an area that has a decent amount of stuff to do around it if possible. Based on what I've seen/heard, Ballston has many new grads but not as much to do. Clarendon/Courthouse has lots to do but a slightly older crowd (i.e. mid 20s early 30s families etc.) and from what I've seen of Rosslyn it seems to have stuff to do but I know nothing about the crowd there. Any suggestions and info about these areas would be greatly appreciated!

I am an old lady with the heart of young person (I am not dead yet). If I were single, I would head to the DC waterfront and Marine Barracks Area. Barring that,Arlington around Clarendon-Ballston-Shirlington. Capitol Hill and Eastern Market areas are great for singles as well. Rule of thumb in this area is the closer to DC that you can get, the better it is, up to a point. Rosslyn is mostly 9-to 5. Clarendon you can grow into....

I have a 25 year old daughter. DC is the place to be!! However, there's nothing wrong with Clarendon. It is supposedly has a post-college frat vibe.

Based on your specifications, Clarendon is likely the best fit. Courthouse and Ballston follow. I recommend crossing Rosslyn off your list. Rosslyn has greatly improved over the past several years, but remains primarily a center of business.

I assume you know that rents in the area for a two-bedroom apartment are roughly around $2,500 per month and up.

As a previous poster noted, there's also D.C. itself to consider -- especially if you're working in the city.

Single, childfree woman in her 30s here... I'm also looking at the same area that you and your friend are currently. I'm currently living in the suburbs (Reston) and I'm bored out of my mind. I just got a job offer in downtown DC and I'm DEFINITELY moving closer to the city.

I was told that Rosslyn & Ballston are dead after happy hour. I hear Clarendon is supposed to be THE post-grad, continued frat party lifestyle scene. I heard Courthouse is a bit quieter than Clarendon, but I'm not really sure what that means.

I'm looking at The Clarendon Apartments followed by 1800 Oak Apartments in Rosslyn.

The reason we're living in Arlington is because we're working in Northern VA so living in DC is unfortunately not an option for us especially since I will be driving to work. I've heard that Clarendon is more of a going out place whereas Ballsotn and Rosslyn are more happy hour but what I really wanted to know is who lives in these areas? I don't mind taking a 5 min metro ride from Ballston/Rosslyn into DC/Clarendon to go out but I would like it if my neighbors are around my age. Like I said in my original post, my roommate and I are really looking to meet new people.

The 20-something crowd live in Clarendon followed by Ballston. Good luck!

Clarendon's where all the action is especially for the just graduated from college crowd. Ballston is a lot of high rise apartment buildings (but may improve with the mall replacement opening) and Roslyn is business. You can live in any of them though - they're all close.

If you want to meet new people join one of the adult sports leagues in DC -kickball/flag football are probably the most popular.

Demographically Ballston, Clarendon, and Courthouse are pretty much the same - young and preppy. More people actually live in Courthouse or Ballston because thats where the high rise apartment buildings are. Rosslyn is slightly older and has a significant Chinese population for some reason but its really boring so I would cross it off your list.

Its super easy to get around these different hoods - only like a 15 minute walk from either, 5 minute bus ride, or 5 minute bike ride.
