Hello,

My sister and I are currently looking into moving to a Reston condo, specifically in the Shadowood Condominium. We are two women in our late 20s.
We were wondering if we could get some information about how safe and quiet the area might be. Any input will be appreciated.

Thank you!

Years ago, Shadowood wasn't someplace where you would want to live. Not sure about these days... Here's a link to a crime map:

Try this
My Neighborhood Report

The My Neighborhood Report is an application that lets users discover information about Fairfax County addresses and their surrounding neighborhood. The application also provides links to information about real estate assessment, surrounding land development, and nearby police events.

Have tried for my own address, and you can get listing of police calls for within 1/4, 1/2, or 1 mile of an address for a selected 30 day period and can go back at least several months. Items may be as little as noise violations, but can more serious such as assaults, robberies, etc. Traffic incidents are not listed unless another crime is involved.

I just got this e-mail today:

I live very near Shadowood and have a friend who lives there. She elderly and lives alone. I don't think she has any worries about living there. I do acknowledge that there has been some issues at Shadowood. I mostly consider the issues at Shadowood as either petty crime (don't leave you car unlocked) or association crime (make sure you don't associate with people of ill repute).

Hi,

One idea is listen to a police scanner and see what kind of calls occur. There are apps and websites for that.

For folks who got picked up in fairfax county you can use Fairfax County Arrest/Ticket Home and of course always check this website every 6 months or so Virginia State Police.

I would assume the condo has rental units. You might want to find out how often the condo turns over its units. I would assume longer term residents may be preferable over shorter term residents.
