Hi,

We live in Richland Forest area 20164. Child will attend Seneca Ridge Middle School and Dominion High. Any information on these schools from parents? Looking at GreatSchools ratings and reading some of the student comments on Seneca Middle kind of scares us to move out of this area.

Any information will be greatly appreciated!

If no one answers and there is nothing in the forum history, look on citydata.com for the school stats. Then look at each school on the fcps.edu site to see their stats. Finally, you could google each school and look at reviews there.but take the reviews with much salt. My kids go the Herndon schools, which I adore!

The number of people going on greatschools to gripe is going to far outweigh those (if there even are any) that leave positive reviews...A quick google shows reviews like "this place is more garbage than the common pistol from fortnite its so trash" does sound like a fair review from a parent to you?

I think the reliance on greatschools and similar rating sites is just silly. The vast majority of the adult population made it through their education without their parents obsessing over such things just fine. These two schools couldn't be any more in suburbia your kids will be fine.

I have an older one that graduated from Dom this year and younger who is 8th grader at Seneca. Seneca we love the new leadership team. They are heavily involved with the technology and opportunity for the kids. The principle is very approachable and the teachers are incredible.

Dom, DR. Brewer keeps the school in check. I am hoping he stays there for a while. We did not come across challenges that are listed online. My son is off to college and got accepted in most of the local colleges.

Every school has its own challenges. We have a friend their son is at Briar Wood in Ashburn. Got mingled with wrong sets of kids and now they are dealing with alcohol and drugs. Same goes with kids we know are at TJ. He got into depression.

Good luck!

thank you all for replying! I wasn't going to count on great schools alone... I'll have to reconsider this move. My main concern was really with Seneca Ridge Middle as I've heard people say middle school is where you make it or break it. Our circle of friends were really downplaying sterling area schools and I knew there was always the inside story which no one ever knows unless you ask. Thank again! My son is at meadowland elem and we absolutely loved his KG teacher and the fairly new principal Mizel. Was a little skeptical about the student population and how it would if any have an impact on the quality of education a student were to receive.
