I will be relocating to NOVA in late January, requesting some guidance on housing and recommended neighborhoods/buildings as this market is quite overwhelming, here are my details:
- I am a single young professional, male in early 30s
- 75k salary
- Working in Tysons Corner area
- Ideally seeking a studio apartment in a newer building if possible
- I have one vehicle
- As a young adult I enjoy living in areas with access to social spots such as bars, restaurants, nightlife, etc.
Any pointers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your responses!
My son (25) is living in Arlington/Clarendon and works in Tyson's and tells me that the commute is great. He was living in DC and it was a nightmare getting out of the city to get to work so the move to Arlington has been wonderful.
Your issues are price. Prices are high and if you want a newer, modern apartment I think you'll have problems with $1800 for a studio. If you can tolerate an older building then it might work for you. I know my friends daughter lived in a studio (or maybe 1 bedroom) in Clarendon for many years in an older building (paid about $1800) and was pretty happy with it.
I agree with others that Mosaic area would be good but I think it's pretty pricey there as well.
Thank you all for the responses. The apartments in the Dunn Loring/Mosaic area fit perfectly in my budget however as a single young professional will there be enough in this area to keep me busy from a social standpoint? Also, how bad would the metro ride be into DC for weekend activities and nightlife? I am moving from out of state so being in an area where I can socialize and meet other young professionals is very important to me.
If you like walkability and a better social life, you should try Arlington close to any of the metro. You will need to get a roommate though to split the cost. Many of my colleagues rent 2b/2b and easy commute to Tysons and are also couple of stops away to DC.
There is a nice free shuttle from Mosaic for residents to the Dunn Loring stop. Its a 28 yo to young family 1 baby 2 dogs vibe. Arlington is very age diverse depending where you are.. Many young ones, just out of college. (Lots of UVA JMU sweatshirts/gear)
