How long would it actually take to commute from Falls Church city to Alexandria ( near the Huntington metro)? I am trying to figure out if working in Alexandria and living in Falls Church city is feasible. Would going around on the Beltway be faster than taking 7 on city streets? Google maps says the beltway is 18 miles and would take 30 min ( it looks like it would be reverse commutish) it also says taking 7 (leesburg pike) is 11 miles and takes 30 min. Does that sound correct?

Thanks,

The Beltway is backup up by the Wilson bridge during rush hour. I would take the Beltway to Van Dorn, then take Eisenhower/Holland/Duke to Route 1 to Huntington. Probably will take you 40 minutes, maybe longer if the beltway is tied up near the mixing bowl.

Route 7 has several choke points (7 corners, Bailey's crossroads, Beaureguard, 395) and an insane amount of stop lights. I would switch from route 7 right after Bailey's to Seminary to Quaker to Duke to Route 1. Probably will take 45 minutes to an hour. Either way the commute isn't too bad.
