Where are the nice communities to live for a single person around Chantilly? Nice, affordable and safe; one bedroom. I don't mind commuting 30 minutes.

Maybe rent for a year first; a room or an apartment to get familiar with the area.

Need more info. 30 min commute to where? You would get to Fairfax City area in 30 min from some parts of Chantilly. Chantilly Fairfax County or Loudon County? You will do much better reposting in the No.Virginia sub folder and be ready to answer where you are commuting to and more important, what do you consider affordable? Plenty of apartments but may not fit your criteria.

Thank you.

I've moved this to the Northern Virginia sub-forum where discussions of Chantilly are found.

BTW, I lived in Chantilly for 28 years, 1977 to 2005, in the Brookfield community.

Not much for a single person out that way, some apartments, but mostly SFHs and THs for family living.

Thirty minutes to where? Tell us that and we'll give some good advice. When we left in 2005 the traffic was horrendous, we called it combat commuting.

If you haven’t been back lately you would be shocked what all has filled in the Chantilly area. Many more apartments, esp further west. We lived in Greenbriar from 1979-2014 and still get up there. Nothing has changed, only gotten worse with Rt. 50. Chantilly can also mean the Loudoun County side now too and there is a lot of buildup. I agree with you about stuff for singles to do however.

It sounds to me like OP's job will be in Chantilly and he needs to be within 30 minutes of Chantilly. I would think that the apartments/condos around Vienna metro station would probably be a good bet for a single person. It's not a long drive to Chantilly from there, but you also get direct Metro access into Arlington and D.C. (might be useful for a 'night out'). Also centrally located to the commercial districts around Fair Oaks and Tysons.

Yeah, but this sub-forum skews towards those who think places like Broadlands or South Riding or Chantilly or Lansdowne are hip, fun, and exciting places, apparently. They are perfectly safe and well-polished communities, but they are also bland, vanilla, and predictable---good for families but not so much for singles.

'Chantilly' covers a broad area- and as others have mentioned may not be the best for singles (although yes there are some there). Is it your job location that has you wanting to be there? I'd recommend a single person focusing more on Mosaic/ Merrifield or even Fair Oaks or near Vienna Metro and doing a reverse commute. More singles and easier access into Arlington or DC for when you want to go out.
