Willing be visiting Alexandria this weekend in order to do the walk thru on our new townhome which we are closing on soon. As the new place is all hardwood floors, I will be needing some area rugs. Please suggest some good local merchants to visit. Our taste is contemporary...no need for orientals, etc. Thanks

Hi,
I used to live in Alexandria, VA long time ago and used to sell rugs at Georgetown Carpet. I don't know if they are still around but here are the names of the few that were in business and I'm sure some of them still are:

Soroush Custom rugs
Carpetland
International Carpet & Rugs
Georgetown Carpet

You may find their address and website if you google their names.

I RECOMMEND: Area Rug Club ( arearugsclub.com). You don't pay tax or shipping.

see their contemporary rugs selection here:

Hope this helps. Good Luck!

There is a rug place that looks wholesale in Newington, off the Fairfax county parkway, there might even be a couple. The whole area is filled with wholesale contractor type places. Open to the public. Worth a look. And the Costco right near there has some decent area rugs, not oriental.
