Good Evening! I'm currently living in Fairfax near I-66/US-50 and am looking at a job near Silver Spring / White Oak. How bad would the commute be (both metro & driving)? I'm currently working in NW DC and have 50 minute or so commute which is acceptable, just wondering how much worse this would be. Thanks!

One hour on Metro from Vienna stop to Silver Spring plus whatever time it takes to get to Vienna and park. If you leave before 6:30 am you can get to Silver Spring via Beltway to Georgia Avenue to 16th St. NW to East West Hwy within 45-50 minutes driving. It will take significantly longer to get home. Upwards of 60-120 minutes. That's all to downtown Silver Spring. I'm not sure where White Oak is. Hope that helps.

I live in the same area and did the same commute at one time. Driving is the better, and less costly, option.

Typically about 45 minutes from Fairfax to downtown Silver Spring (it's a reverse commute once you pass Tyson's); and about 1:15 on the return, a bit longer on Thursdays and Fridays, depending on the time you leave.

Parking in the public garages was about $5-$6 daily.

White Oak is farther north than the Silver Spring Metro. It would not be a pretty commute, particularly in the afternoon. I'd guess 45 min - hour in the morning. Hour to hour and half in the afternoon. I can imagine doing it for a year or so, then getting so sick of it that you decide to move to the Silver Spring area.
