Hi-
I've found a couple of great sand lots in Arlington, big, lots of toys and trucks, playground equipment, enclosed. Are there any in Fairfax County? I live near Merrifield/Dunn Loring. Thanks!

I've never heard of a "sandlot," but there is a HUGE new playground in McLean called Clemyjontri, about 20 minutes from you. Clemyjontri Park, Clemy Park, Fairfax County Park Authority
It's easily the biggest playground I've ever seen, with a wonderful soft surface designed for kids in wheelchairs and walkers but also great for strollers and tricycles. It gets very crowded during peak times, which might require parking in the overflow lot down the street. Definitely worth checking out if you have kids between 1-6.

Clemyjontri is great but it doesn't have a large sand play area (sandlot) with trucks, toys etc. Guess I'll keep driving east to Arlington.
If you want to visit Clemyjontri, go before 10 or there will be no parking.

You know, I haven't seen sandlots even here in Loudoun County! I'm guessing (please prove me wrong) that it's a sanitation issue with cats etc. possibly peeing in it. Are there any in Loudoun County either?

The only sand lot I'm aware of is in City of Fairfax (Ratcliffe Park). It is small, but kids love it. Pirate Cove Water Park also has a sand area, but obviously that will close after the summer is over.

Now I see what you mean.
I suppose that the Arlington park you found is what we always called the "Harrison Street" park. Amazing how many trucks and toys are left there. When my kids were small, just about 15 years ago, none of that stuff was there....

There is a big sand lot in a park in the middle of Vienna near Main St. but I forget the name of it. It is just off the main drag in town.

Bull Run Park in Centreville has a big, sand playground. Accotink Lake has a sandy "beach" area that would also be fun to play in - but you would need to bring your own toys.

I was also going to mention Meadow Lane park on (wait for it...) Meadow Lane in Vienna. The sand lot is not terribly big, but it has toys and that is a really nice park overall.
