We are looking at relocating to Purcellville but of course one of the bigger concerns in the commute. we know it will be long but we are looking for information from people that are actually making the commutes each day. anyone have experience making the commute to/from purcellville to Herndon? Alexandria? DC? insight into length of time and route info is appreciated. i've heard good things about the bus into DC - any experience? thanks!

You might make it to Herndon in an hour, Alexandria/DC will likely be 2+ hours each way depending on specific route and whether or not you carpool. Not pretty.

The W & OD is a bike trail and honestly as slow as traffic moves during rush hours, you might make it in the same amount of time!

I know two people who commute from Lovettsville to DC. They leave for work around 6:15 in the morning and it takes an hour and 15 minutes. Leaving work at 3:30, same thing coming home. Since you are a few miles closer to DC, your commute would not be as long.

Forgot to add, another commuter I know goes from Lovettsville to Reston everyday. He said it's 45 minutes, but his building is right off the Dulles toll road, a block off. He commutes regular kind of hours, leaving his office around 6:00 each night, gets home at 6:45.

I would really like to know how one could make it from far out places like Lovettsville or Purceville to DC in an hour and 15 minutes during commute periods. People commute to my Tysons office from western Loudoun and can't even make it to work that fast. I guess maybe if you leave that early and carpool, but that quick of a commute wouldn't seem to be a common experience when living 50 miles away.

To the OP, although commuting from Loudoun to the Dulles Corridor is common, I wouldn't suggest living there and working in DC or Alexandria everyday.

Purceville to Herndon NOT bad at all esp if you take the toll (267) 45 minutes would be avg. alot of days you'll make in 30 minutes and if the weather is bad etc... an hour.
If you leave before 7:00am even rt 7 won't be that bad I'd say a good 45minutes to work and probably an hour home. after 9am... 30minutes.

DC...yes 1.5-2hours would be pretty good bet. yes the Loudoun county commuter bus runs into DC and that would be the quickest way but you are still looking at over an hour. And if you have to stay late etc... it's not so good as it has a very limited schedule. LEESBURG to DC with no traffic is 45minutes. Same with Alexandria 45 minutes without traffic. It once took me +2 hours to get from the Woodrow wilson bridge to Leesburg.

So...if you are going to commute to either DC or Alex no way I'd live in Purceville.
If you are commuting to Herndon...go for it! It's a great town etc...
