Hello...
We have recently moved to Stephens City and are looking for ANY free household items anyone can offer. We left all of our furniture behind in AZ because we couldn't afford shipping costs.

Need couch/sofa/loveseat, recliner, televisions, microwave, beds, end tables, etc.

We would appreciate any help or suggestions possible. I have already looked on craigslist. Alot of the people on there live closer to DC, which is a good hours drive away, and we only have a car, so transporting tied down tems on a highway for 50-60 miles isn't very feasible.

Please help! Thanks!!

I have looked on craigslist for freebies but I can't drive a far distance on highways with stuff tied onto my car. I'm not finding any free items closer to where I live. Any other suggestions? :-)

Default There's no place like home . . . or making one

Try:

freecycle.org

Also, check out the thrift shops like Salvation Army and Goodwill in the area. I've had great luck finding excellent items. Nothing like giving an object new life. If you're creative, a little paint, stain, or a staple gun and fabric goes a long way.

You're not that far from Loudoun Co and Prince William Co so check out things in those areas. Also, Loudoun County has a county surplus office. It's outside of Leesburg on Rte 7 (east side). It's kind of tucked into the road and right near the Salvation Army so you should stop there too. The county sells used surplus furniture, books and tapes from the libraries and stuff like that. Really cheap. Most of it is office stuff like file cabinets and desks but I spotted some decent arm chairs and very usable end tables last time I was there.

And I am wondering if there are some decent flea markets in the WV area?

I'll be moving to Winchester in Jan or Feb. Looking forward to setting up house too! Good luck and Happy Hunting for your furnishings!

Wow! Thanks for the info. I've never heard of the freecycle site but have just visited and signed up so hopefully I can find something on there.

Yeah everybody talks about it but I haven't utilized it yet either. Good luck with your finds! Let us know if you find some great stuff!

There's a Habitat store in Winchester -- on north Kent, I think.

There's also one in Purcellville (Loudoun)

Sorry not North Kent. It's on North Cameron in Winchester.

The one in Purcellville is on Main Street in the old shopping center with Purcellville Marketplace behind the BP.
