I'm looking for a decent deli in the Reston area. I want Chorizo sausage, the proper cured stuff. Not the salami/pepperoni that i can get at the grocery store and not the Italian sausage that you have to cook.

I realise that Chorizo is not Italian but thought they would stock it.

Unfortunately, there are NO, repeat NO Italian delis in Fairfax, Loudon area. Some call them selves "Italian deli" but if you are used to the NY/NJ style delis, there are none.

The Deli has Chorizo on their menu, but I have never tried it so I can't vouch for it. They have a location in Fairfax and a location in Herndon:

The Deli Herndon - 480 Elden St, Herndon, VA 20170 | tele: 703-435-9085 (http://www.thedeliherndon.com/herndon/menu.html - broken link)

I'll try Wegmans and that place in Herndon to start with then. Maybe a road trip to NY is on the cards!

Thanks all.

I'd try a Wegman's, Whole Foods, or Trader Joe's (don't know which of these are out in Reston). They usually have both real chorizo and "chorizo" (spicier fresh sausage). Also, it's a bit of a hike, but I know for a fact that Dean & Deluca has a decent smoked/dried meats selection (Gourmet Food Gift Baskets, Cakes, California Wines – Dean & DeLuca).

you can also try international markets, such as Super H mart, to see if they carry it fresh.

If that's true, I hope one of you entrepreneurial types take note. Sounds like it could be a good business to open.
