Are there any specific areas to NOT consider as far as safety goes? I love walking my dogs, spending time outside, coming home late from gigs, etc. I don't want a duck and run situation.

And yes, Craig's list has provided some good opportunities. Actually found what appears to be a great duplex apartment, so I could sound proof the finished attic for the drum kit (maybe!)

I suggest looking at the Fairfax County web site and use the "My Neighborhood" application. You can search crime reports based on a specific address.

Cool website! I've found a similar website for DC. I can ony figure out how to search the police incidents for one month at a time. The DC system lets you search for a year at a time.
