Hi,

my wife moved from Germany to Loudon County early this year and has a valid work permit. Unfortunately it is not easy to find a job for her, even with a degree in business and 10 years of work experience. A lot of jobs in the area ask for citizenship, something she doesn't have. Any idea which company might be interested in a motivated person fluent in English and native German speaker?

Any suggestion will be really appreciated.

Hampti

I wouldn't have any idea of how to contact them, but there is a German Military Representative here - they have a facility at Dulles.

There's also the German School in Potomac, Maryland - but that would be quite a commute. They are looking for German-speaking substitute teachers for kindergarten (job listing).

Definitely check Craigslist - a search for "German" in the Jobs section turns up some possibilities - including front desk at a hair salon in Clarendon, at-home translation work, call center, sales, and tutoring jobs.

I have a few contractors that do not have citizenship, so looking at the big government contractors might be one option instead of working for the fed directly. Depends on the contract requirements, security requirements, etc.

My first thought was that Volkswagen US headquarters is in Herndon (2200 Ferdinand Porsche Drive, Herndon, VA 2017). I would think they might hire a native German speaker.

Hi!
Wilkommen, my mom is German and works at Loudoun County Public Schools. She is just in the cafeteria, but I'm sure there are other positions that maybe your wife could apply to. They definitely hire Germans, didn't see you mention that your wife has a social security number, you'll need to get her that too! Viel Glueck!
