Hey, I am moving to the area for a new job and originally I was suppose to be put in a location in Reston but they have now changed that to Ashburn. I will be renting in Herndon. Looking at google map it dosnt look like too bad of a commute. Anyone have any suggestions or opinions on the commute to Ashburn from Herndon? Thanks!

Don't you just love that? I was commuting less than five minutes from Reston to Herndon for my first two weeks and then got suddenly relocated to McLean---a much longer commute along Route 7 where I get to tailgate left-lane-lollygaggers! LOL!

Herndon to Ashburn wouldn't be a bad commute at all. I wouldn't sweat it.

You'll be going mostly against the traffic, might hit some on 28 if you take that route. Not sure where exactly in Ashburn you'll be working but if you end up driving on Waxpool, you'll be going against the traffic for sure. Hope this helps!!

Yes, it will be a good commute. Probably 20 minutes.

What part of Ashburn? Doesn't matter much, as others have said you'll be going against traffic.

I go from ashburn to gainesville everyday via 28, so see the traffic everyday. 28-North is backed up at the Frying Pan stoplight usually, but I think that is the southern tip of Herndon. After that, 28 is generally not too bad beyond the airport area.

In Ashburn, traffic is a bear going towards 28 in the mornings, but you'll be opposite that. You should be able to cruise right on in to ashburn and laugh at the rest of us stuck in waxpool traffic on the other side.

20 minutes is probably spot on, as previously mentioned. Not a bad commute at all for the Northern VA area.

GoHokies-do you know why Ashburn Pkwy was so backed up this morning going to 28? I drive this daily but today seemed VERY bad. And then it was really bad on 267...Seems like the last week has been AWFUL! School back in the problem?

I think you should be fine. Pretty much a straight shot on 28, and there really aren't any traffic lights on there anymore. I wouldn't worry about that commute.

I think it's a combination of school being back in session, and accidents the past few days. My commute has increased by about 20 minutes due to the school traffic, most of that is waxpool backing up a lot more. I've also noticed quite a few fender benders these past few days, not sure why the increase in those though!

No more lazy mornings for me though, I have to rush my mornings to try and hop on the road earlier. I've only been here since the start of the year, so I had forgotten how much I hated waxpool in the mornings while school is in

LOL-Waxpool stinks. I thought making the one turning lane next to airbus a straight lane would help but people seem not to notice and don't go in that lane. As soon as I hit that area I go in that lane and getting to 28 is much quicker. Argh. Traffic!
