Are there official hours for trick-or-treating here? Town of Vienna says no, and I can't find anything on FFX County's web site. And if not official hours, unofficial ones? Thanks for any last-minute advice!

No trick-or-treaters here in Reston yet as of 4:40 PM. The doorbell rang earlier, and I went rushing over with my bowl of treat bags only to see someone asking me if I was voting Democratic on Tuesday! LOL! I lied to keep her happy, as I plan to vote for McDonnell (R) and then Democrats Steve Shannon and Jody Wagner as a good system of checks and balances.

Nobody will start until it starts to get dark. I would say between 6:30 and 8:30 to expect them.

They dont start coming until after dark - in NJ they start in the daytime. I guess it is different in this part of the country.

Thank you, all! Where we lived before it was fixed hours, 6 to 8. I'm off to get rained on in the pursuit of childhood happiness.

So when do they start? It's almost 8 PM and I haven't had my first trick-or-treater yet (or does Reston just suck for Halloween?)

I read on another board that some complexes have special signs for folks to post on the door if they are passing out candy. I like: Snickers, dark chocolate, anything with nuts

I had already asked about that here, and the apartment complex manager said that although she'd be looking around to give out a "prize" to any units she saw with pumpkin lights hanging from their balconies there wasn't anything "special" that she was aware of for trick-or-treating. What a shame that one of my favorite holidays of the year was a dud. When people demand to know why I want to own my own small home someday, this is one of a myriad of reasons. I want to help brighten someone's day with some nice Christmas decorations and hand out candy to neighborhood children.

I'm still not hearing any offers of your candy that I might like...

But, like stated here and in the other thread, it's too risky for kids to go to apartments (either younger singles who might be out, crabby older singles and/or older couples who don't give out candy, etc.)

We had a lot of Trick or Treaters here in the Burke area - not as many as last year though.
